How to make Palitaw

by - Sunday, February 14, 2016

Palitaw is a Filipino native dessert which is sweet, coated with fresh grated coconut and sesame seeds. This is usually found in public markets, outside of the church, and in the street.

You can make your palitaw into a more catching and appetizing food by adding some food colouring.

Make sure to wash your hands if you're not using disposables gloves before making this dessert.

Ingredients:
  • 3 cups glutinous rice flour
  • 1 1/2 cup water
  • 2 cups shredded/grated coconut
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds

food colouring (optional)
  • red
  • blue
  • violet
  • green

Materials needed:
  • wine glass or cookie cutter
  • chopping board or baking table

Direction:
- for sesame seeds -
  • Heat the pan and cook sesame seed until it becomes slightly brown

- for dough -
  1. Pour glutinous rice flour and water in a bowl and mix it well (add water if your dough is too wet and if not, just add glutinous flour).
  2. knead glutinous flour with water until it becomes dough
  3. After kneading, cut dough into 5 for 5 different colours of dough (red, white, blue, green and violet)
  4. Get 1 of the dough and form a ball with your palms
  5. then flatten and form a round using wine glass or cookie cutter
  6. sprinkle some glutinous rice flour to prevent them from sticking while making the rest of palitaw
  7. add food colouring in each of the dough and knead. Repeat the process #1, #4 and #5.

Cooking Direction:
  1. boil water in a pot
  2. then drop palitaw one by one
  3. and wait for palitaw to float from the bottom
  4. that means, it's already cooked
  5. Get them one by one and set aside

Coating:
  1. Roll in grated coconut and set aside
  2. Mix white sugar and sesame seeds
  3. Roll again in white sugar and sesame seeds

This is best serve with hot coffee, tea, hot chocolate or any drink you love and enjoy your palitaw.
