Homemade Mozzarella Corn Dog without cornmeal
Homemade Mozzarella Corn Dog without cornmeal |
When we say Corn Dog, we expected that there is a cornmeal in the ingredients. But cornmeal is a little bit hard to find here in our country and I don’t see it in any of the groceries as well even in the wet market.

Don’t worry! You can make your own cornmeal at home just make sure that you have a grinder or blender (the one that you used for making juice or grinder for coffee if you have this). You may want to read this post here because in this post today, we’re making Corn Dog.
Watch the video if you want to see how I made this, not the best among all the corn dogs you have seen/watched. But it is worth to try, you can make a better one than my creation :)
Good luck and enjoy!
Lest’s start by our ingredients, some of you are often asking me what brand of the product I use so, I’ll include it for you in the ingredients. But it is not necessarily needed to use the same brand as long as you use the same ingredient/s.

Use measuring spoon for exact measurement of ingredients:
APF = All-Purpose Flour
tsp = teaspoon
tbsp = tablespoon
Ingredients without Cornmeal:
- 1 1/4 cup Magnolia All-Purpose Flour (APF)
- 1 tbsp All-Purpose Flour (dusting)
- 5-6 pieces CDO Bigtime Jumbo Hotdog (peeled/washed and dry)
- 1 tsp Calumet Baking powder
- 1/3 cup Alaska evaporated milk
- 1/4 cup granulated white sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 5-6 skewer (Uncle John’s Barbeque sticks)
- 2 egg (beat each egg in a separate bowl)
- 1 cup Good Life Japanese style bread crumbs
- 1 cup grated Chizboy mozzarella cheese
- Cooking oil
Where to buy these ingredients:
Savemore, Puregold, wet market, all groceries in the Philippines. If outside the country, I am pretty sure they are available in all Asian store.
Note:
If you don’t have Mozzarella Cheese, you can use any regular cheese like Eden, Quezo etc.
Step 2: Combine All-Purpose Flour, baking powder, salt, milk, sugar and 1 egg. Mix well and massage until you can form a dough. It should be smooth and well mixed before kneading the dough. Don’t worry, you don’t need to make it perfect as long as you knead it. That should be fine.
Cut and divide into 5-6 equal parts (shown in the video and pic)
Step 3: Set aside and rest for about a minute.
Step 4: In a clean or baking area, dust some APF on your baking area then, roll each piece of dough into a rope approximately twice as long the hot dog.

Step 5: Flatten dough, then add mozzarella cheese.
Step 6: Wrap dough around the hot dog, start at the end and seal by pressing it.
Step 7: Set aside and prepare your cooking oil by heating it on medium heat for 3-4 minutes in a deep pan.
Step 8: Pour bread crumbs on a flat plate. Set aside.
Step 9: Beat egg and set aside. Dip dough with the hot dog in it and make sure that it is well covered with then beaten egg.
Step 10: Then cover it with bread crumbs.
Step 11: Fry our corn dog in a low and medium heat. Fry until it becomes brown or golden brown.
Step 12: Place it on a cooling rack or paper towel to drain the excess oil.
Step 13: Once done frying, sprinkle sugar on the surface then add some sauces like ketchup, mustard or cheesy sauce.
Step 14: Enjoy and feel free to ask me if you have questions :)
